CHAIRity 2011 Annual Event and Auction

For the 11th year, students in the Interior Design program at the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts began their senior year learning about victims of domestive abuse through a partnership with the City of Phoenix Family Advocacy Center, an organization that provides comprehensive services to victims of domestic and sexual violence, homicide, and other violent crimes.
Inspired by stories of the Family Advocacy Center's (FAC) success helping women and families begin new lives free from abuse, the students seek inspiration from an artist or artistic movement to design a chair that reflects what they have learned through the FAC. Nine designs were developed by teams of two or three student designers who collaborate, construct, and present their chairs for judging. The challenge is to design and build the chairs in only five weeks, and all are one of a kind. Representatives of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) Southwest Chapter judge the chairs and choose one winning chair for a scholarship award.
The chairs will be on display in the Phoenix Burton Barr Library March 4–March 23 and Phoenix City Hall atrium from March 24–April 7, 2011. You can also find photos of the chairs on Facebook. Thursday, April 7, 2011, the chairs will be offered for live and silent auction at a reception featuring hors d'oeuvres and beverages at the Phoenix Art Museum for the CHAIRity event to benefit the City of Phoenix Family Advocacy Center. Individual tickets are $135 and sponsorships and ticket packages are available.
